Book Swap Success & Summer Reading Challenge

Published on 2018-06-07 by Farah Ameen School News

Last week’s book swap was a great success. We gave away over 2,000 books in 3 days, & many students were very happy to have books of their own to take home. Thank you for all the great book donations & the volunteer help. We couldn’t have done it without you. Special thanks to the PGO for funding the purchase of additional books to supplement the book donations, and to publishers Houghton Mifflin Harcourt & Simon & Schuster for giving us boxes of brand-new books. We are grateful.

At this year’s book swap, reading specialist Stephanie Joyce and other staff took pictures of students and their new books. The photos were “shelf-ies” — “selfies,” but with books (above). The “Shelf-ies”  were part of the kickoff for this summer’s reading challenge to encourage students to read over the summer. The challenge will include counting the total number of books and pages read school-wide, and “Raising the Roof” on summer reading. More details will be coming home soon. Meanwhile, check out the challenge ahead for Principal Shea (below). : )
