“What to a Slave Is the Fourth of July?” Reading

With the help of a grant from Mass Humanities, South Congregational Church, 1066 South East Street in Amherst, will mount a public reading and discussion of Frederick Douglass’s famous “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” speech on July 4 at 3 p.m. UMass Professor Amilcar Shabazz will introduce and lead a discussion of the speech; readers will be members of the community. We’re seeking readers of all ages in multiple languages. Here’s how you can participate:
